I'm always impressed when I see the places where it has sown itself. I'm in the throes of deciding on some annual seed collections from Theodore Payne to try for self-sowing this spring and next fall. So many choices.
Hannahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04773149110503024929noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1495323991307537519.post-66305195640513893662013-04-08T04:13:56.719-07:002013-04-08T04:13:56.719-07:00Alison- I've read horror stories about goutwe...Alison- I've read horror stories about goutweed but mine is in an isolated bed which was very weedy, still is with native blackberries, and the goutweed and variegated Phalaris battle it out there, and help hold back the blackberries, so no small plants to overrun and no near beds either. It has not self-sown anywhere. A variegated Camellia has been very slowly getting bigger there, maybe in a decade to two it will even decide to bloom. Still it's good to alert people to potential thugs.Hannahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04773149110503024929noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1495323991307537519.post-27666391701148079172013-04-05T14:01:21.728-07:002013-04-05T14:01:21.728-07:00Those are some very interesting plants. That corn salad particularly looks interesting, and, like Alison, I had not heard of it.Dorothy Bordershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12441731296027227394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1495323991307537519.post-52704135074106200652013-04-05T09:47:14.365-07:002013-04-05T09:47:14.365-07:00A few years ago I sowed a bunch of California self...A few years ago I sowed a bunch of California self-sowing annuals in the back bed that I just recently redid. I just sprinkled the Gillia capitat seeds right in the bed, and they popped up just fine. Gilia, Limnanthes and Nemophila all established very nicely, but I had to pull out a bunch of those seedlings when I redid it. I'm planning to reintroduce them now that I've redone it.

I've never heard of corn salad, I'll have to check it out. I hope you don't eventually regret growing that goutweed. I had it in a previous garden, and it was a nightmare. It will swallow up anything you plant near it.Alisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16323262555906240701noreply@blogger.com
