Daylilies- Here Today, Gone Tomorrow July 5, 2014

Today I am linking with-

Today's Flowers hosted by Denise

I Heart Macro hosted by Laura

Macro Monday 2 hosted by Gemma Wiseman

Blue Monday hosted by Smiling Sally

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Fourth of July, we went to a couple of parties and watched my son explode some fireworks for the grandkids.   How about those bare feet.   Ouch.

Daylilies are the current stars of my garden.  In the round and ruffled category-

My favorite red, the camera can't seem to catch the depth of the red-

Another red, in a bagel shape, Scarlet Orbit-

The Blue Pimpernels recovered from being munched by the deer-

One of those carefree plants that seed themselves around arranged themselves nicely along the driveway, Lychnis coronaria, not native in this part of the US-

A native plant, fireweed, that also made itself comfortable in this spot,

Meanwhile, the Blueberries are getting ripe, along with raspberries, currants, and soon plums-

Roses continue to bloom, early bloomer Zephirine Drouhin here with the fourth Clematis, jackmanii-

Ah, summer!   I am enjoying everything except the little stumps of my bean plants left by the rabbits.   I, like Blackbeard, must say Argggh.    Hannah

    1. Thanks, Valerie, I really enjoy the start of the berry season, and I planted a lot of blueberries so they keep getting ripe almost to frost.

  7. I've always loved daylilies, and those are such gorgeous colors. And the bluest blueberries I've ever seen!

    1. I love daylilies in that most are tough, but since they grow vertically they can allow weeds to creep in at their bases. But I enjoy them while they are blooming, though not liket the blueberries, which are great berries, keeping better than the other ones, and having a very long season with enough different varieties.

    1. Thanks, Karen, I was depressed about summer ending last year and started seeds very early, like the end of November, under lights, hoping to get earlier bloom this year. It did seem to work, most grew and some have bloomed, some soon will. I don't seem to get good results if I direct sow except very large seed like Nasturtiums. You'd think plants capable of self-sowing could be direct sown....

  10. Hi Hannah (sorry just correcting a typo in the first comment!)
It might be a pain in the do-da to have deer munching on the Blue-Pimpernels but from my townie life that all sounds rather gorgeous... along with the bunnies chomping on your beans, and if your blueberries are anything to go by, no wonder word has got out in the animal kingdom about the great eats at your place!!
I have loved our chats by e-mail, to be continued as I have the plane ride home!

  11. Happy travels, Wren! My beans are very disheartening, I grow a number of heirloom beans and if I plant all my seed for a bean then it is eaten and doesn't get to bear, I have no seed from it for the next year. But now I am trying surrounding the plants with chicken wire. The stubs can regrow from the axils so perhaps there is still hope....

    1. Thanks, they are beautiful berries but my frustration is that the whole cluster doesn't ripen at once, but I must carefully pick off the ripe ones without also breaking off the green ones.

    1. Thanks, Janice, I have a love/hate relationship with all the big red cedars, they have roots everywhere but make a lot of shade so I can work outside in shade even on a hot day.

    1. Thanks, Riet, I'm enjoying the daylily show. The kids did love the fireworks. I thought the sparklers weren't as good as the ones I had as a kid, and fizzled out a lot.

  18. Hi thanks for coming by my Apartment with a view post. It was a little disappointing.
I have moved so many times you would think I would be used to it. LOL. I hope your daughter finds the right place.

    1. Thanks, in many ways blueberries are my favorite berries, long-keeping, and a broad spectrum of maturity dates keeps me in blueberries a long time.

  21. Thanks, Evan. My grandkids came over this week and picked berries and it turned out the plums are just starting to get ripe, so they had a blast, most of the berries don't make it to the bucket.

  23. Oh Hannah it all seems so lovely except for the beans...the voles got mine last year...I have to net my gardens from critters and I surrounded the beans with plastic utensils to discourage the voles.
