Foliage Follow-up, June 16, 2014

Hi, joining up late for Foliage Follow-up, join hostess Pam at Digging for more foliage selections, also see the comment section.

I have a visitor to my garden, actually he lurks here, my Akebia elephant, you have to use your imagination-

I enjoy a few burgundy plants in my garden, first my fairly new Cotinus-

Plum Passion Nandina-

Berberis thunbergii on Elaeagnus ebbingei 'variegata'-

What is growing burgundy or lurking in your garden?

  1. Dear Hanna, thank you for stopping by at Polonica: Home Again. Poland has changed a lot in the past 25 years. Hope you and your husband will visit the land of his ancestors one day.
You have a beautiful garden. I am a novice gardener, learning as I go, but enjoying it all very much. Best regards.

  2. I guess all gardeners are learning as they go, I know I have a lot to learn as well. Some plants do well, others do poorly, but the ones that do well make up for the others, and put the smile on my face.

  3. That looks like a very interesting garden. The Akebia looks interesting and wild.

  4. Thanks, Christian, the Akebia is on a metal trellis my husband built, on the left side is the opening to go inside under the vines. There are 2 Akebia, quinata and trifoliata. They are very vigorous, but one a lot more than the other, so I haven't gotten fruit for a number of years.

  5. Hi Hannah. I love your Akebia elephant and saw it right away! I also enjoyed your burgundy nandina and barberry. The barberry looks great against the variegated foliage.

    1. Yes, the Akebia is quite rambunctious. I never know what monsters plants will turn into in my yard, thanks to the soil and water here, my semi-dwarf apple trees all turned into huge monsters instead of the nice 6' little trees I was expecting from San Diego.

    2. Thanks, I enjoy burgundy foliage, sometimes it turns green as it grows in, but the Barberry stays dark, though the new foliage is a delightful pink color.
