Fall colors for In a Vase on Monday

Welcome to my blog, today I am linking with-

Macro Monday 2 hosted by Gemma and Mystical Magical Teacher

In a Vase on Monday hosted by Cathy of Rambling in the Garden

Those fall sunsets can make some nice silhouettes, I seem to have captured a bird-

My Blue Mist wildflower Coelstinum conoclinium came up very late and is blooming very late again, no danger it will take over the garden-

Here with a very small crab spider, sorry it is not sharper-

I enjoy growing the annual tame relative, Ageratum, started indoors-

The oranger of my two Dahlias is featured in my vase this week, answering the challenge of Cathy of Rambling in the Garden to fill a vase with plant material from my garden for her meme In a Vase on Monday.

I used a red glass mosaic vase for some shots, here you can also see Gaillardia 'Tokajer' blooming its first year and nearly continuously.  The red foliage and berries of Berberis thunbergii 'Rosy Glow' can also be seen.  Here my Swedish Dala horse has joined the flowers, commemorating my Swedish MIL, Martha, who was born in October, 1911, and almost came to America with her family on the Titanic, but took another ship.

Marta Magreta Gunhilde-

One of her great-grandsons looks a lot like her-

Also in the vase are some double Gaillardias, with a flash-

Then I thought about another mosaic glass vase and wanted to see what it would look like in it.

Which vase do you like better with the flowers?    Fall has been cooler and the bean plants keep producing, especially the runner beans which like cool weather and make wonderful shellies.   Yum!
Hannah     A litle fall ambience-

  1. Thanks for the posting. I do love your Blue Mist wildflower. Not something we see Downunder.

    1. Thanks, I just wish it would live up to its reputation here and grow like a weed. At least the Ageratums have been blooming a long time.

    1. Thanks, Rainfield, I did have a spider but one that doesn't use webs, but camouflage, though the white doesn't do her much good on a purple flower.;-) Maybe the bees will see her and not get eaten.

    1. Thanks, Gunilla, the deeper tones of the dahlias make me think of the colors of the sunset. I like the mosaic vases but don't often think to use them.

    1. Thanks, Ela, it is sad to hear of your frost and loss of your flowers. I don't know how long I can expect to keep my flowers here, I hope for a while.

  10. Beautiful series, Hannah! Thank you so much for sharing, and thanks as well for identifying the purple blooms in your 4th photo! I have seen these here in Montreal, Canada, in a nature park but I didn't know their name.

    1. Yes, I love the Ageratums, Linda, I actually started 4 kinds from seed this year because the catalogs made them appear to be different colors of blue/purple, but they all turned out the same, disappointingly. But they just keep on blooming all summer and into fall.

  11. I like the photo with the flash that shows up the different colours of the first vase - although I thought at first you had tried 3 different vases! The gaillardia are perfect with the dahlias - I especially like the double ones. Thanks for sharing the props and your family memories too - these add a lovely personal touch to the Monday vases, don't they?

    1. Thanks, Cathy, I enjoyed your family photos so it made me think of including some of mine. The last red vase looks amazingly like the colors of the green/peach vase in that light, doesn't it?

  12. That's the dilemma, which vase to use...all are great but I prefer the last one...it does both the vase and the flowers justice. Great family photos too.

    1. Thanks, Kris, I like peachy sunset colors. Especially when they are unfolding, they have a darker center.

  14. I love it too when a vase takes us down a family history trail. I love the warm reds and buttery yellows in your vases today. The vase without the flash is my favourite.

  15. Luscious dahlias! I admire your glass mosaic vases so much - they are beautiful even on their own. I think the red one you chose first goes best with the colors you chose to arrange, esp. the berberis. Interesting about your family history and yes, there is a strong family resemblance even generations apart! Love that!

    1. Thanks, Eliza, I went through a mosaic glass phase, and I have several to show for it. I like the red with the red barberries. It is very interesting when a baby looks alot like the baby photos of their great-grandma. It always makes me wonder if he will resemble her as an adult too.

    1. Thanks, Anca, I always marvel at the story of my MIL's family adventures coming here from far-away Sweden. My ancestors came over in the very distant past so there are no stories about their journey.

    1. Thanks, Brian, it is sobering to think that a decision like that could have been so catastrophic, and the ripples would have been that my husband would never have existed.

  18. Amazing how different the plant material looks in the different colored vases. I happen to like the red one for the way it brings out the color of the barberry. I'm reminded of the Josef Albers color studies showing how adjoining colors affect how we see them.

    1. I notice how much putting in some contrasting colors really perks up a vase. Ricki. Some vases have colors together that I wouldn't think would go together but they can look fabulous/

    1. Thanks, Ann, I have more of them too. My MIL tended to give them as presents.;-) Amazon and Ebay have some, and there is a Scandinavian shop not too far from me. I should try to get over there sometime.

  22. I am actually favoring the last vase although I liked all 3. That sunset is fabulous and I must plant some mist flower next year....many have featured it and I love it. I agree the great grandson does look like Marta. Have a wonderful weekend Hannah!

    1. As far as the vase empty, I definitely like the last one better, and more of fall colors. I like the red one but the texture is rougher. I wish the mist flower were more exuberant, perhaps it doesn't like part shade.
