Blue Macro Mellow Yellow Monday, February 10, 2014

Welcome to my Monday post.  This comes right after a heavy winter snowstorm, more than 9" of snow.  Linking today with-

Blue Monday hosted by Smiling Sally

Macro Monday 2 hosted by Gemma Wiseman

I Heart Macro hosted by Laura

Monday Mellow Yellows hosted by Gemma Wiseman

First something to warm you up, a quilted Betta from last summer's fair-

Glowing peach rose from last fall's visit to the Portland Rose Garden-

Now those snow photos you have been waiting for, my house surrounded by foreboding sentinels, Western Red Cedar-

And the view to the southeast-

The plants that keep the winter green, Rhododendrons looking elegant in the snow with twisty branches-

Leaves pointed downward in the cold-

The tangle of apple and plum trees too large to prune easily, these are Semi-Dwarf that apparently do not know what that means!!!  Moving here from California I pictured a nice row of around 6' tall trees-

And to make up for all the deciduous drabness, the wonderful Phyllostachys nuda bamboo-

That concludes my snow photos for this week, I hope the snow will go soon, as transportation has been very affected, and my new phone and sim card are delayed on their way.  Stay warm!

  1. What a beautiful series Hannah… spring will be here bringing lots of bright green and fresh blossoms before we know it! Thanks for sharing the love up-close with I Heart Macro:-)

    1. Thanks, Laura, my grandkids have enjoyed the snow immensely but it was bad timing for us to be snowed in and anxious to receive mail. It is pretty, though. Usually we get some nice warm weather before spring, so here's hoping.

  2. The house in the snow surrounded by the tall trees remind me on a time that I lived in the forest and the first week it started snowing - I felt living a fairy tale. Thanks for that precious memory! All your pics are beautiful! Hope you get your phone soon:)

    1. Thanks, Jeannette, it feel like I am living in a forest with all the big cedars and maples. But when it is hot I can always find shade to work in.

    1. Thanks, Leovi. It's a little difficult being snowed in, but at least we only lost power for a short time, otherwise we would have had to start burnng firewood, we usually don't.

  5. I prefer the colorful photos to the snowy landscape ! I haven't seen a single snowflake here, and am ready for spring now.

    1. We have had some winters without snow, one year it rained every day in the fall, winter, and early spring so the temperatures were very mild. I expect after the heavy snow that the fruit trees will have bumper crops, since snow brings a lot of nitrogen from the atmosphere down with it.

    1. Thanks, Lady Lilith, snow really beautifies everything for a while at least. Ice storms are really beautiful too but I'm glad we don't have one.

    1. Thanks, Gunilla, that is pretty much my favorite color of rose, and I also like it for paint for bathrooms.

    1. Yes, the trees that surround our house are scary big. One year we had a bunch blow down but they were ones that were crowded in the forest and had rather small root systems. I enjoyed your wonderful Olympics photos.

    1. Thanks, Carol. Looking at your last name, I have to remark that my niece just had a baby girl and named her Mackenna!

    1. It is lovely, but I did so much work on the long driveway trying to clear ruts for a car so maybe the mail truck would make a delivery. I guess hardship makes me appreciate it more when things are going well.
